And the Winter Market Closes

These leeks were purchased for Leslie and Emma, two of my friends who have never had leeks on the barbeque. Aren't they in for a treat!

It’s a sad state of affairs, but not really…the winter market that has been operating at the Nat Bailey Stadium is officially closed for the season, to be replaced by a plethora of Summer Markets. Offhand, you can find one in Kits, at Trout Lake, in Gastown and I hear there are some new ones starting in Burnaby and the North Shore, more details on that later in the week!

Today, I spent $40 on produce and $26 on pork products. This is what I bought for my money:

2 bunches of radishes
1 bunch of arugula
2 leeks
a bag of braising greens
1 bunch of kale
6 long pork sausages
1/2 lb of ground pork
1/2 pound of baby shitaki mushroom
3/4 pound of crimini mushrooms

Clearly, this is not enough food for me for the week, but I am going to try to combine things with the almost-dozen eggs I still have from last week, and the dried and canned food from my pantry, on account that it is STILL the end of the month. You can judge how I do. And, you can let me know your thoughts on what I do. I would like that…at least I think I would…
